Design & Installation
Wire Wall with Wire Face
Site Preparation
Foundations must be graded level to a width that is equal to, or exceeds, the soil reinforcing lengths. The foundation should be prepared as per the directions of the engineer and all excavation cuts and slopes should be in accordance with local regulations and project drawings.
Backfill
Backfill placement is to closely follow the erection of each course of soil reinforcing. No compaction equipment is to be operated directly on the soil reinforcing. Backfill should be compacted to 95% Standard Proctor Density and placed in horizontal lifts, in maximum 12 inches compacted thickness. Only use smooth drum rollers, as sheep’s foot rollers are not permitted.
Drainage
All drainage considerations should be specified and installed as directed by the engineer. Appropriate precautions should be taken to prevent surface runoff from entering the wall construction area. Note: Drainage design is not included in the wall design.
Assembly
Wire mesh soil reinforcing and facing materials are to be placed in successive horizontal lifts as backfill placement proceeds. Vertical and horizontal tolerance should not exceed 2 inches when measured along a 10 foot straight edge. Standard wall components include soil reinforcing, backing panels, cap mats, hardware cloth and/or geotextile cloth, fasteners and other incidentals as required by the project. Detailed engineering drawings are provided.

Stabilized Earth Wall
A cast-in-place concrete leveling pad is required for the concrete panels and should be placed as shown on the project drawings. Using an approved lifting device, precast panels are to be placed in successive horizontal lifts with the soil reinforcing.

Only precast concrete panels meeting project requirements can be used. Careful handling of panels is critical, as damaged panels are subject to rejection. Note: Site preparation, backfilling procedures and drainage requirements are the same as wire faced wall system.
Wire Wall with Veneer Fascia
A leveling pad is required to be placed at the toe of the wire wall and an anchoring system that protrudes from the wall face is installed to allow for attachment of the fascia. The type of fascia can be either precast concrete panels, cast-in-place concrete panels, concrete block, native stone or sculpted concrete.

In applications where foundation settlement is anticipated the foundation is allowed to settle then the fascia is applied. Site preparation, backfilling procedures and drainage requirements are similar to the wire faced wall system.
